AVG Anti-Virus Review

AVG Anti Virus Reviewed

AVG Antivirus has been around for years now and has been a go to for many of people, either wanting a smaller AV brand or a more lightweight, simplistic AV. They offer Computer protection, Web and Email protection, Hacker protection, privacy protection, payment protection and while family protection all in one bundle. Their protection scans for a wide variety of threats like viruses, ransomware, spyware, rootkits and Trojans. They also make sure your online banking, shopping email and kids are safe from nasty sites or bad people

Layout

The interface easy to use, It has all the important features showing and gives you a run down on how your protection is going. It is sleek and the black/grey and green goes nicely together to make a stylish UI. Many features like a full computer scan only or boot time scans are hidden away making it hard to find and the UI to simplistic. Its hidden away in an area that most people would associate with settings and get deterred from touching

The Scan screen gives you an overview of what part in the scan it is up to and even prompts details about the part when it completes providing a simple and easy to understand scan screen.

The Update screen however feels like it was ripped directly from another antivirus and feels too bland and boring compared to the rest of the interfaces.

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Stylish UI that is easy to use and navigate
  • 24/7 customer support offered in case an emergency arises
  • Browser plugin to help keep you safe
  • Multiple devices supported
  • Has Ransomware protection

Cons

  • It installs google chrome with itself unless you un-check the box which is put away from the persons view
  • Major performance hits, uses a lot of resources making computer and the AV program lag
  • Costs $99 a year while still trying to sell its cleanup/Tuning software
  • UI is lacking functionality hiding features from the user
  • Limited online support threads and paid support if articles do not help
  • Doesn’t support Bitcoin

Conclusion

In conclusion AVG has a nice UI that sadly hides features, AVG offers paid 24/7 support, however there are strong negatives like attempting to install google chrome, performance issues and trying to up-sell other AVG company software.
